Yahoo has bought VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) service provider Dialpad Communications to use its technology in Yahoo's VoIP services, Dailpad said Tuesday.

WiMax phone service coming
NextWeb, a Fremont Internet service provider, plans to announce today an Internet phone service that uses a wireless technology known as WiMax.
The phone service will launch in cities across California next month.
Certification of WiMax, a wireless technology backed primarily by Intel, is expected as early as summer.

Yahoo Inc. said Tuesday it had acquired DialPad Communications Inc., a 6-year-old company whose software lets people to place calls over the Internet for a fraction of the cost of regular telephone service.
The companies would not release financial details of the deal, which closed Monday.

Comcast to Offer Web-Based Phone Service (VOIP)
Comcast Corp. is joining the crowd of major cable TV and telephone companies venturing into Internet-based phone service, but with a higher price and extra features which the nation's largest cable provider hopes will set its product apart.
The company — which plans to charge per month, or to more than most of Internet phone services — said Monday it believes customers will pay more for features such as battery backup to keep the phone line running during power outages.

Cingular, Sprint and France Telecom on the Same Team
The Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) announced Wednesday that Cingular Wireless, Sprint PCS and France Telecom have joined its efforts to fight spam and viruses.
The nonprofit coalition was founded last December by a group of communications and technology companies to fight messaging abuses and attacks. Internet service provider America Online joined the group Wednesday as well.
