New Zealand Outage Shut Down Stock Exchange
-A major outage in Telecom Corp.'s cable network Monday disrupted data services, electronic cash transactions, mobile phone, and Internet services as well as shutting down the nation's stock exchange for hours, the telecommunications provider said.
Widespread disruption to business and private services was caused by two cable breaks on its North Island network.
They were repaired by mid-afternoon Monday--at least five hours after they occurred.

Comcast to Offer Web-Based Phone Service (VOIP)
Comcast Corp. is joining the crowd of major cable TV and telephone companies venturing into Internet-based phone service, but with a higher price and extra features which the nation's largest cable provider hopes will set its product apart.
The company — which plans to charge per month, or to more than most of Internet phone services — said Monday it believes customers will pay more for features such as battery backup to keep the phone line running during power outages.

Nokia Starts Pilot Test For Cell Phone TV Viewing
TV on mobile phone handsets is being tested by 500 subscribers in Finland, Nokia announced Tuesday.
Real-time television programming from several popular outlets is transmitted to Nokia 7710 smartphones fitted with special accessory appliances in the Helsinki capital region, Nokia reported.
"The Nokia smartphone also enables direct links to the Internet for access to background information on TV programs or sports results," the firm stated. "the project tests mobile TV services and consumer experiences, as well as the underlying technology." Subscribers are also able to receive popular radio programs in the test, which is scheduled to continue until June 20.
