Wireless Stock Quotes
I developed a new website which delivers weather warnings and stock quotes to your cell phone. The service is free. You can also get the quotes and weather updates delivered to your email address. To get them sent to your cellphone you'll need to know the email address for your cell phone. For example, for tmobile users your email address would be: your_cell_phone_number@tmomail.net I don't think it costs you anything from your cell phone provider, but you might want to...

Arnold Schwarzenegger
The other day we found out that Steve (one of our developers) has the same phone number as Arnold Schwarzenegger! Steve had a bizarre voice mail from someone looking for Arnie. We're not sure why Steve's greeting led them to believe that they should actually leave their number... We scratched our heads for a minute, but then realized that area code 415 was in California (one digit different from Redmond's 425). So a quick reverse phone number lookup confirmed that Steve's phone number is identical to the California Governor's Office! Apparently this explains several phone messages that Steve has recieved over the years. The only question is how we can use this for profit and fame...

Skype me
Skype allows you to make phone calls anywhere in the world from your PC for about 2 cents an minute. You can receive calls too, plus there's voicemail and file transfer. Calls can be made to/from a Skype number or a regular phone number.
All you need is a headset (mine was at Radio Shack) and you're set to go.
If you have Skype, I'm polizerosbob.

Mobile Internet Telephony Visibility Increases
Some well-known names are lining up behind one company's technology to let consumers and enterprises put away their cell phones--and mobile call charges--when they get to their homes and offices.
IBM, VeriSign, and Airespace want to foster roaming between cell phone systems and IP (Internet Protocol) networks so calls to a user's cell phone number can come to a wired or wireless VoIP phone instead. And with dual-mode cell/Wi-Fi phones that are starting to emerge, a subscriber could carry one phone and simply switch modes when in range of a Wi-Fi network.

Anonymous Text Messages
The ability to send anonymous messages, could damage the wireless industry. This will give spammers free reign of text messaging without having to face consequences.
The following is an excerpt from a press release I read.
"19secret.com.au launched today by Beep Interactive Pty Ltd. 19secret is a service that allows people to send anonymous and masked ("spoofed") SMS messages from their mobile phone. Usually when you send an SMS, the sender's number is displayed and the recipient can identify whom it is from. With 19secret you can hide the sender's number (an anonymous SMS) or replace it with another name or number."

Text Messaging Rings in the New Year Breaking Records
A mobile phone was as essential to the recent New Year's festivities as a party mood and Auld Lang Syne, if the number of text messages sent is anything to go by.
Between midnight on 31 December and midnight on 1 January, 133m text messages were sent in the UK.

Cell Phones, Text Messaging and Google
Google has come to cellphones -- the cheap ones, not just the fancy color-screen models with Web access. Over the last month, the popular search engine company
has quietly turned on a new service that lets people use most newer cellphone models to get snippets of information by sending short text messages to a special
five-digit number, 46645, which spells GOOGL on a phone keypad.
People looking for a list of pizza or Chinese restaurants in Back Bay, for example, just have to send the message "pizza 02116" or "Chinese 02116." Within 10 seconds or so, Google shoots back one or more text messages listing restaurants with addresses and phone numbers from its Google Local page.
